Fine Print Guard

Privacy policy

Last updated 28 September 2026. This policy covers the Fine Print Guard Chrome extension and this website.

The short version

Fine Print Guard checks pages on your computer. There is no Fine Print Guard server, no account, and we never collect which sites you visit.

What stays on your computer

  • The pages, terms of service and privacy policies it reads, and the grades it gives them.
  • Your settings, your watchlist, reminders and the list of sites you have paused.
  • Counts of what was blocked.

Settings are saved with Chrome's storage, which Chrome may sync to your other computers if you use Chrome sync. We cannot see any of it.

What is sent, and when

  • Anonymous usage stats, to Google Analytics: which features are used (for example "a report was opened") a random ID for this browser, and your country (worked out from your computer's time zone, never your location or IP). Web addresses, site names and email addresses are removed before anything is sent. You can turn this off in Settings under "Send anonymous usage stats". It is always off when a school manages the extension.
  • Problem reports and feedback, only when you press Send. A problem report can include the site's name if you choose to include it.

Nothing is sold, and nothing is used for advertising.

Permissions

  • Access to all sites is optional and only asked for on the welcome page. It lets the extension block ads and read each site's terms. Without it, the extension only runs on a page when you click its icon.
  • Privacy and content settings are optional and let it turn on Chrome's own third-party cookie blocking when you ask it to.
  • The other permissions let it block trackers, show its icon grade, send reminders and add a right-click menu.

Children and schools

Fine Print Guard does not collect personal information from anyone, including students. When a school manages it, usage stats and problem reports are switched off.
